Reclaimed Barn Wood: Kitchen Design Trends
Wood accents are becoming more and more popular each year. It looks like their popularity will continue to grow throughout 2019. Thanks to a successful television show, reclaimed barnwood, or “ship lap” is being seen in many newly remodeled homes. People look for ways to incorporate the rustic, worn wood in their kitchen. If you decide to use it, there are several things you can do with reclaimed wood. A ship lap accent wall can drastically change the look of any room. The variation in colors will help to make that wall stand out. The same goes with flooring. Darker, reclaimed wood floors will really pop, especially in a kitchen with light colored cabinets. Speaking of cabinets, you may want to look to your island for that wood accent. An all natural, rustic look for the island will certainly become the center of attention.

White is Always in: Kitchen Design Trends
As we have mentioned in a previous blog, white cabinets will likely trend for years to come. This is because of the clean, bright look they bring to any kitchen. They also help to modernize any room they are in, especially with a nice shaker door. White may seem too simple but it continues to be near the top of the trending list each year. If white isn’t what you are looking for, 2019 has some new colors to throw into the mix. Hunter green is a trending color this year. It looks fantastic, especially when paired with some nice copper or gold hardware. Dark blue is a color that started to pick up last year and greys of any shade remain a popular choice. The color options are endless nowadays but these few stand out from the rest this year.

Don’t Forget About Countertops!
Countertops and backsplash also have trends of their own. Quartz continues to rule the world of countertops, in terms of material. Popular colors are still whites and grays. Quartz will likely be around for a while because of how durable and low maintenance it is, compared to other options. It is scratch and stain resistant, which is a big deal for many. Quartz that looks like calacatta marble is definitely on the fore front of the trends right now. It features bold veining and that is a look that continues to grow in popularity. Subway tile continues to lead the pack in backsplash. One new trend that is starting to show up though is longer tiles. A 3×6 inch tile has always been a popular choice but we are starting to see more 3×12. Color is dependent on whether you want your backsplash to match the countertop or stand out.
Keeping up with the trends
As you can see, there are plenty of things to think about before starting your remodel. Styles all come and go but these are the trends you’ll see the most through 2019. It is especially important to keep with the trends if you plan on selling your home soon. A trendy, up to date home will sell quicker and for more than something that has not been touched in years. The bottom line though, is what you want as the home owner. For more on other trends in the kitchen and bath industry, stay up to date on all of our blogs and follow us on social media.
